The lady in white

Freedom

I stood at the edge of horizon
To see liberty sparkle our sky
Smiles and jubilation on faces
Ragged by relentless struggle to be free.
Three scores years have passed
And the country still marches ahead,
With strides of pride and diversity
Her compassion is widespread.
Some ailments and maladies
Still ail us,
But we are not what you see,
Presented before the spectators
A disastrous caricatured travesty.
We are unshackling ourselves
Of vestiges of our recent past.
To reach our glorious destiny
With honesty and loyalty steadfast.
